Connecting to the DataFlow/Alaska, Inc. SharePoint Server

Using Internet Explorer

Connections to the DataFlow/Alaska, Inc. SharePoint server are encrypted using Secure Socket Layer (SSL).  To accomplish this, your Internet browser must have an encryption key.

DataFlow/Alaska, Inc. is providing its on Certificate Authority to create and manage security keys.

Since we are not affiliated with a known third party Certificate Authority, your Internet browser will alert you that this certificate is “self-signed”.  This is normal for this connection.

Follow the instructions below to install the SSL certificate on your Microsoft Internet Explorer browser.

***Note:

We have seen that Internet Explorer sometimes fails to remember that you already acquired an SSL certificate for our SharePoint server.  It is likely due to the nature of the security on our network.

If this happens simply click “Continue to this website (not recommended)” each time and then enter your username and password.  Don’t bother to go through these steps more than once.

The connection will be encrypted using the certificate, but will display “Certificate Error” to the right of the address line.  This is only to warn you that this certificate is self-signed. *******

After you click your link to our SharePoint server, you will receive the following page:

Click “Continue to this website (not recommended)”.

You are now connected to our SharePoint server over an encrypted connection and can provide your username and password.

Enter your user name and password.  The connection is encrypted.

Near the top of the Internet Explorer window, toward the center it reads “Certificate Error” in black on a red background.

Left click on “Certificate Error” to the right of the address at the top of the screen.  (it is red in color)

A small box will appear on the screen.  Select “View Certificates” at the bottom of the small box.  Using this box, you can install the SSL certificate to Internet Explorer.

Click the “Install Certificate…” button.

This will start a typical installation wizard.

Click the next button.

You will want to keep the default selection of “Automatically select the certificate store based on the type of certificate.”

Click next and accept the defaults.

You should be given a message telling you it has been completed.

Your browser should remember this certificate.
